Now that Fallout 4 is in its third year and the DLC has dried up, is there any point in returning to the Commonwealth Wasteland? Yes! There are loads, largely thanks to the still-growing list of mods, overhauls and user tweaks. Here, I’ve gathered over 50 of my favourites, ranging from weird weapons to wild weather.
Before we start, a couple of things to remember: some mods will require some or all of the DLC expansions, as well as additional mods, while others don’t play nicely with each other. The mod descriptions on Nexus will usually tell you, so keep an eye out.

Fallout 4 UI mods
There’s something big arriving this week which can make or break Bethesda’s attempts to craft a massive online wasteland — Fallout 76. The game will eventually have its own curated mods (unlike the ones that users have recently made). I know everyone’s hoping that mod support for Fallout 76 will be extensive simply because Bethesda’s games have often been an amazing playground for modders. That’s what brings us to this feature — the best Fallout 4 mods of all-time.
I’ve chosen one to three mods for each category from the Fallout 4 Nexus website (although there are also some honorable mentions). These mods have enriched my playthroughs; with ESP merging I was actually running the game with 250 mods. I’ll also explain why I think a certain mod is head and shoulders above the rest, though that doesn’t do any disservice to other creators. Lastly, I did not include any mods which lean heavily on NSFW content (sorry CBBE).
Note that all images used in this article are from their respective creators.
Armor and Clothing
HN66 Sirius 12 Assault Suit by Humannature66
Humannature66’s armor set redefines cool and stylish as you adventure in Fallout 4’s wasteland. Rather than look like a scraggly scavenger, your Sole Survivor looks like a member of a highly-advanced mecha strike team. Think of it like you just ransacked The Institute or the Brotherhood of Steel and came away with a bunch of insanely eye-catching stuff. And yes, before you ask, there’s a sexier version too. Because why not?
Pampas armor set by Ralfetas
While I did say that there won’t be anything that’s quite NSFW, some slightly sexy armor sets and bodysuits would still apply. The Pampas set by Ralfetas works in this regard. Yes, it does have armor pieces that border on making female characters sexier (they are for CBBE, after all), but it’s still fairly fitting and not too skimpy (or “slooty” as Fallout 4 players might call it). There’s also the more fan-servicey and slightly NSFW Fortaleza set.
Eli’s Armor Collection Remade by Elianora
If the two examples above weren’t lore-friendly enough for your tastes, then Elianora’s creations might interest you. Her clothing designs and mash-ups are impeccable. They actually fit how a normal civilian might dress today (or during 2076, assuming you found some retro clothing). It’s perfect for players who do want custom outfits without necessarily being too outrageous.
Honorable Mentions
- Nano Suit and Nano Armor by Vasstek
- Rad-Ban Eyewear by Cedaie
- Kerrigan Bodysuit by Guffeh
- Precursor Suit by Ellise
- K-9 Harness by Fadingsignal
- Black Widow Armor and Pipboy, the Courser X-92 Power Suit, and Atom Girl Outfit by Deserter-X and NSK13
- And, of course, anything made by Niero, from his Courser Strigidae outfit to the Militia Woman set and the Cross Cybernetics. Note that some outfits made by TheKite are a bit NSFW, though.
Power Armor
T-49 Armor of the Storyteller by Unoctium
Hands down a work of genius, Unoctium brought Shoddycast and YouTube favorite The Storyteller and his memorable Power Armor in Fallout 4. Yes, this download actually includes The Storyteller, and all his jabs and quips, as well as his eyebot EDNA.
TES-51 Skyrim Power Armor by EdibleGrenade12
One of the cooler additions to Power Armor mods happens to take inspiration from another Bethesda game — The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. This creation by EdibleGrenade12 has gorgeous details and even comes with its own loading screen image.
Honorable Mentions
- Enclave X-02 Power Armor also by Unoctium
- Bioshock-inspired Submersible Power Armor also by EdibleGrenade12
- NAVI Power Armor and Bodysuit by Justice 123
- Warhammer 40K Relic Space Marine by Metaking
Weapons
ACR-W17 by N7R
There are a number of awesome realistic and fictional weapon mods in Fallout 4. However, I do believe the ACR-W17 might be the best of the bunch. That’s because of N7R’s implementation of a progression system. The ACR-W17 is fully customizable, and new attachments would be unlocked depending on how often you use the weapon. For instance, you could have additional medkits strapped on the weapon itself, which heals you for an amount.
Remote Explosives by Fadingsignal
Sure, you can throw your grenades or molotovs and wait for them to explode, but what if you can plan ahead and place your remote-detonated explosive traps around your settlements? How about sneaking around a raider camp and placing mini nukes while patrols are unwary? Fadingsignal lets you do just that in this mod that makes combat more dynamic.
Crossbows of the Commonwealth by TrickyVein
Some weapons recreate or modify existing archetypes. Others, like the Crossbows of the Commonwealth mod by Trickyvein, completely change your style of play. They’re weapons that are perfect for a stealthy run. Be careful if you miss or if you’re trapped in a firefight, though, because crossbows are a pain in the ass to reload.
Honorable Mentions
- DKS-501 Sniper Rifle by LtCommander
- Simonov PTRS-41 Anti-Tank Rifle by Kazumamqj
- The classic M1 Garand by AsXas
- The Cross Cryolance and Break Action Laser by Niero
- Weaponsmith Extended which was uploaded by Gambit77 but contains the bundled work of many awesome modders including the Crossbows of the Commonwealth, DKS-501 Sniper Rifle, and more.
Companions
Heather Casdin by LlamaRCA
Heather Casdin is far and away one of the best companion mods ever made for any game — period. The character has a ton of voice lines and even has a unique affinity and quest system. As you progress through the game, Heather tells you of her tragic story, eventually opening up to you as you kill more synths or drink some of her herbal concoctions.
Ellen the Cartographer by Guicool
Another brilliantly made companion is Ellen the Cartographer from Guicool. She’s voiced by none other than Potastic Panda (Ambriel companion from Skyrim). While Ellen does follow the vanilla system, it’s done in such a refreshing way that you truly feel that she’s part of the base game.
Amazing Follower Tweaks by Dheuster
No matter how many new companions you might download, you’ll ideally need a companion system to manage all of them. Amazing Follower Tweaks (AFT) is perhaps the best mod that can do that. It doesn’t just allow you to use multiple companions, it also adds a plethora of options like setting their outfits, poses, home locations, and even automatically clean and build settlements. AFT basically has the functions of many other companion management mods and then some. It’s also “mod-friendly” in that it internally checks if certain companions might “break” their scripts.

Overhauls And Makeovers
FROST Survival Simulator by Naugrim04
FROST completely changes the way anyone plays the game. That’s because it’s a unique survival simulation set in the Fallout 4 world. Say goodbye to most NPCs and questing in general, because now your only objective is to survive for as long as possible.
Atomguard by Galejro
Atomguard brings something that fans of Skyrim‘s Dawnguard DLC might love, and that’s the ability to play as a bloodthirsty vampire. Your playthrough will be completely different. It’s not just because of new quests and locations, but because you’re out for the living. You can even raise the dead. Oh, and you’ll also get to see Serana again.

Visual Improvements And Immersion
Vivid All-in-One by Hein84
Vivid All-in-One is a mod that changes how Fallout 4 looks with all the options available upon installation. From the landscape to the vegetation, to even the weather, the mod has it all. The best thing about it is that you no longer need to install existing mods separately.
DECENT ENB by Zyd232
Although there are a number of ENBs and reshades out there that truly make for a photorealistic experience, DECENT ENB was always my choice. It does its job well, which is making the wasteland look more vibrant and scenic while also not letting performance take a major hit.
Honorable Mentions
- Empyreal ENB by GWP14
- Grim Wolf Reshade and ENB by Wolfgrimdark
- Film Workshop by TreyM
Technical And UI Improvements
Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch by the Unofficial Patch Project Team and Arthmoor
Was there ever any doubt that this would be an absolute necessity? Bethesda games are notorious for having lots of bugs and technical issues. The Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch tends to correct many of those.
Mod Configuration Menu and HUD Framework by Registrator2000, and the Fallout 4 Script Extender
When Fallout 4‘s Creation Kit initially released, a number of downloads tend to be wonky. Then came improvements in the form of the Fallout 4 Script Extender (F4SE), which allowed modders to go beyond what the game normally allowed them to do. Meanwhile, the Mod Configuration Menu (MCM) has a number of mods that continue to use it. Their settings can be changed using MCM as opposed to using the console or having a Pipboy tape.
Honorable Mentions
- Valdacil’s Item Sorting by Valdacil
- DEF_UI also by Valdacil
- Looks Menu by Expired978 and the Looks Menu Compendium by AGodComplexPikachu
- Improved Map with Visible Roads by MM137
- Extended Dialogue Interface also by Registrator2000
Settlement And Crafting
Sim Settlements by Kinggath
To say that Sim Settlements is an amazing mod would be to do it a disservice. It’s a mod that could’ve been an actual paid DLC in its own right. That’s because of the painstaking work that Kinggath has done to revamp what settlement building and management can be like. The mod is so massive, with multiple updates and add-ons, that it ended up with its own section in the Nexus website as well.
Armorsmith Extended by Gambit77
Armorsmith Extended is one of the must-have downloads for any Fallout 4 playthrough. That’s because of the sheer number of changes it does to your crafting needs. Before, whether you were a modder or a regular player, creating your own armor in Fallout 4 could be a bore. With Armorsmith Extended, most armor pieces are now visible on your character (even Super Mutants can wear accessories). It’s made the most out of character models in that multiple slots are available for various attires.
Better Settlers by Thom293
Let’s face it, how many times do you end up seeing the same bland faces looking at you to save them from raiders or ghouls? How many times does Preston tell you that a settlement needs your help, only to see Joe and Jane Schmoe again? With Better Settlers, you can have 240 new folks that can populate your settlements with a variety of customization options. Yes, they can even have distinct hairstyles based on makeover mods that you have.

Quests And New Locations
Atomic Radio and Tales from the Commonwealth by Kris Takahashi
If I didn’t have this mod, I would feel that my Fallout 4 playthrough was just a bit, well, sadder and emptier. That’s because Tales of the Commonwealth fleshes out the wasteland with new and interesting characters. You could be exploring the outskirts of Diamond City, or watching the riverside, and you’d encounter unique NPCs that give you side quests. You’d also meet new companions, and there’s even a radio station included.
Fusion City Rising by Recluse and Thuggysmurf
Once you’ve finished your Fallout 4 playthrough there’s nothing left to do. Maybe you’d like to do some side quests and whatnot, but nothing’s ever the same. With Fusion City Rising, you’ve got something to look forward to during the late game experience. It adds multiple new locations, quests, factions, and even three new companions. You can also check out the follow-up from Thuggysmurg called Outcasts and Remnants.

Grab These Fallout 4 Mods
And there you have it, folks. These are the mods that have served me well in multiple Fallout 4 playthroughs. With Fallout 76 coming out, maybe you’ll find the time to enjoy it. Or maybe not. If it’s the latter then perhaps you’d go back to Fallout 4 and try out some of these mods.
Sep 11, 2013 Battle Realms 2 is real! 12 years after BR 1 Ed Del Castillo, president of Liquid Entertainment announces the game with the title Lair of the Lotus. He keeps us informed in the weekly Liquid. How can the answer be improved? Battle realms lair of the lotus. Battle Realms: Lair of The Lotus was announced on 16th of July 2013 as a sequel to Battle Realms. Later, the project was cancelled due to the lack of budget and Battle Realms on Steam/GOG.
As mentioned up top, I used to run the game with 250 mods active — although I did learn to merge ESP files just to be below the limit. Although I regretfully could not list everything even if I wanted to, all of these creations (and more on the Nexus, Moddb, and the Creation Club) are a labor of love for the talented people that made them.
Are there any other mods that you’ve enjoyed over the years? Let us know.

OverviewEdit
Unlike previous installments, weapons in Fallout 4 fall under three classifications: normal, legendary, and unique. Normal weapons have no special statistics on them whatsoever. Legendary weapons come with random bonuses applied to them, and are only dropped by legendary enemies. Unique weapons are weapons that are already named and will always retain the same special bonus. Uniques are typically either bought from merchants or are quest rewards. Normal and legendary weapons will change their name when mods are applied, unique weapons will not.
All stats are given with standard weapon modifications.
Weapon statisticsEdit
General note: In the following descriptions, the statistics that are shown while playing the game will be referred to as in-game numbers, while the numbers used by the game's code will be referenced as internal numbers. Internal numbers can only be gathered through game editor or console use. |
Accuracy (): This is the Accuracy stat displayed in-game, which is derived from the internal game numbers for projectile deflection angles in an unknown way. See Spread for details on the internal measurements. |
Action Point cost (): The number of Action Points used per activation in V.A.T.S. Generally, this is a one shot equivalent for semi-automatic weapons, but automatic weapons may fire several rounds. |
Ammunition used (): The type of ammunition the weapon uses. This may be changed by the use of receiver mods. |
Armor piercing: The amount of the target's damage resistance the weapon ignores.[1] Also known as armor penetration. |
Bash damage: This is the amount of damage a projectile weapon does when used as a melee weapon. |
Critical hit Damage (): Most unmodified weapons that achieve a critical hit adds twice the base amount of damage to the hit. The more specialized Sneak Attack Critical deals twice the damage of a common critical strike. |
Damage (): This is the damage caused by a single click of the mouse/trigger. For most small guns, that's a single bullet, but for shotguns the damage is equally split between the shell's pellets, and for the Gatling laser it's a single beam. |
Damage per second (): The manually calculated maximum cyclic damage dealt in one second, expressed as rate of fire multiplied by damage. Weapons that require a reload every shot have damage per second shown including reload times; all others show sustained rates without reloads. |
Magazine capacity or shots per reload (): The maximum ammunition capacity of the weapon or the maximum number of shots possible before requiring a reload. |
Magnification: The scope or sight mod's magnification rating. |
Range (): In-game, range is a generalized stat for how far a weapon's projectile can go before suffering from damage loss. How this number is derived from internal values and related to actual distances is unknown. There are two hidden internal range ratings, the minimum and maximum range. Between point blank and the minimum range, damage is full. Between minimum range and maximum range, damage decreases down to the out of range value at a linear rate. Beyond maximum range, damage is reduced by the out of range value. Typically, the out of range value is a 50% loss of damage, though some weapons are higher or lower. Distance for range is rated differently internally: most ranged weapons begin with range being 256 units and some research indicates that that 256 of these internal units is meant to equal approximately 12 feet, but more effort is needed to confirm.[2] |
Rate of fire (): The in-game given number gives the maximum cyclic number of shots/attacks per 10 seconds, without considering reloading. This is internally derived from the weapons attack delay rating divided by its speed rating However, if a weapon is converted to automatic or bolt-action fire, the time between shots becomes derived purely from its speed and/or firing animation duration.[3] |
Recoil: Recoil is the visible movement of the weapon upon firing. Like spread it is represented in maximum possible degrees from the center. Unlike spread which is the invisible possible deviation of the projectile from a perfect shot, recoil visibly moves the weapon and crosshairs, and can be additive with spread. Unlike spread which has a completely random direction, recoil has a limited 'window' which the kick can move the weapon.[4] |
Reload / Reload speed: This is made up of at least two factors. The base reload speed is derived from the reload animation speed in seconds. There is also a second internal value called reload speed that affects reload time in an unknown way, beyond the fact that higher values result in faster reloads. |
Sight time: This is the amount of time it takes to transition from hip firing to sighted or scoped state, in seconds. |
Sighted spread: The amount a weapon's spread is reduced to when aiming down a sight or scope. |
Spread (): Spread is the hidden internal number of degrees from a perfectly centered shot that a projectile can potentially deflect. For example, a combat shotgun has a spread of 12°. When firing it, each of the 8 pellets produced by the weapon can proceed separately from between 0° to 12°, randomly generated, in a separately randomly generated 360° cone. Most weapons have a minimum spread, when the shooter is standing still and fully focused, and a maximum spread. The degree of spread somewhat corresponds to the width of the crosshairs. Spread increases with each shot, by an amount different for each weapon, and slowly reverts to base spread after a slight delay.[4] |
Stability: This is an internal value that represents the amount of movement a sight or scope has without player involvement. How the internal number relates to actual movement is currently unknown, beyond the fact that higher stability means less movement.[4] |
Value to weight ratio (): This is the manually calculated ratio of the base weapon value in caps to the weapon weight. |
Weapon value in caps (): Base value of the weapon in caps. Resale value is affected by Barter skill. |
Weight (): Weight value of the weapon that applies to encumbrance. Weapon weight also increases the amount of time it takes for you to ADS (aim down sights) or 'scope.' This is explained in a loading screen tool-tip |
Unique weapon entries are shaded. |

There is some variance in how damage is dealt within this class of weapon; please consult each weapon's page for specific details. Also, the radiation page explains the unique ways that this kind of damage is handled by the game. These are affected by the perk Nuclear Physicist in terms of radiation damage.

BladedEdit
Bladed weapons can dismember limbs of humanoid opponents, permanently damaging the limb and disarming the target. Like all melee weapons, bladed weapons benefit from Big Leagues and Strength.

Renaming weaponsEdit
In Fallout 4, the player character is able to rename any weapon, including unique weapons, at any weapons workbench. However, the silver submachine gun, the Survivor's Special, Ashmaker and Grognak's axe cannot be renamed, nor will they pick up any prefixes from modding them such as hardened or punishing, etc. Renaming weapons does not affect any weapon stats. This primarily adds a level of personalization to weapons and can help avoid accidentally disassembling a favored weapon.
- Special and accented characters (i.e. alt-codes) can be used when renaming a weapon, but some of those will be replaced with '?'.
- Since patch 1.3, HTML tags (e.g. <u>, <i>) can no longer be used to change the appearance of the weapons name.
ModsEdit
Weapons may be modified in Fallout 4. Each weapon has modification 'slots' (e.g. barrel, grip, magazine, sights) that may be modified with increasingly powerful or useful mods by the player character based on their perks. However, the player character may salvage useful mods that are not yet available via the player character's perk level by simply modifying any weapon that already has the mod of interest.[5] By replacing the mod of interest with any available mod the original mod goes into inventory and may then be used to alter the player character's chosen weapon without regard for their perk level. Unique weapons do not offer this capability; their special mods are 'reserved' and since they are unique, no other examples are available to be salvaged.
NotesEdit
If a player character puts unique and legendary weapons in a container in a settlement, nearby NPCs, like settlers or even enemy attackers, can randomly take them and they may be irretrievable. Therefore, access to personal containers should be restricted, either by obstructing the expected path used by them to reach the container, or by the use of powered doors, holes, floating structures, etc.
BugsEdit
- Playstation 4 Sometimes, when starting the game, gunfire cannot be heard on certain weapons. This can be fixed by re-starting the game or re-loading to a previous save file.[verified]
- PCPlaystation 4 Sometimes, when using a night vision scope, the night vision effect will stick around after going out of the scope.[verified]

We’ve collected the best Fallout 4 mods for gameplay enhancements, visual improvements, new weapons and gear, and more. As with all Bethesda RPGs, Fallout 4 is a game that is massively complimented by user-created mods and is a much stronger experience with a few tweaks, changes and neat little additions. Here we will run down 15 of the best mods you can find to make your post-apocalypse as pleasant as possible. What are the best Fallout 4 mods on PC? The mod community is out in force, so you have lots to choose from when looking to enhance your gameplay.
It’s important to note that although mods are available for the console versions of Fallout 4, Sony does not allow their modders use external assets and so some of these mods are not available on PS4 (sorry!).
We have also compiled some of the best Minecraft mods of 2018 & best skyrim special edition mods right now. Check this

Looking for graphics mods, UI mods, weapon mods or settlement mods? We’ve gathered a list of the best Fallout 4 mods for PS4, PC and Xbox one with Download Link.
1. Full Dialogue Interface
Sometimes your character something you completely did not intend. This is because of Fallout 4’s paraphrased dialogue system, which only gives you a rough idea of what each dialogue option is saying instead of the full line. To avoid any confusion, and just to be crystal clear what you’re saying, The Full Dialogue Interface mod brings the game back to the Fallout 3 way of doing things. A very nice mod for players who found the inaccurate dialogue trees to be occasionally baffling.

2. Everyone’s Best Friend (Dogmeat + Companion At Same Time)
Dogmeat is everyone’s favorite nuclear wasteland dog. Obviously. We didn’t need to clarify that, but as a companion he can be a little underwhelming, particularly in combat. This mod allows you to have an extra companion following you and keep Dogmeat by your side. He has his benefits, but he sucks in combat. This mod allows you to keep those benefits without missing out on some helpful combat aid.

3. Stronger Dogmeat
Alternatively, you could just make Dogmeat stronger in combat. This mod does exactly that. Dogmeat will no longer put out a meager 1-2 dps to your foes, he will now do 58 dps. Now there’s a Good Boy.

4. SimpleSeasons
Although Fallout 4 is a more vibrant game than 3, there’s no doubt that after dozens of hours in the wasteland you may start to get tired of all the greys and browns. SimpleSeasons brings some life back post-apocalypse Boston. This mod will turn the wasteland into a snow-coated landscape, a lush and green beauty, a Summer blend of orange and yellow leaves, or an autumnal array of leaves about to fall off their trees. Be sure to download the four versions of this mod, each reflecting the four seasons, to experience the wonderful variety this mod has to offer.

5. Any Mod Any Weapon
Fallout 4 limits what you can do to change and improve your weapons. Not all mods will fit on all weapons, which does make a certain degree of sense, right? This mod throws logic out of the window in the pursuit of chaos. Ever wanted to shove a Deathclaw’s hand into a boxing glove, or create a pistol that can fire cannon balls? Then this is the mod for you. Go nuts, and see what crazy new weapons you can create with this truly sandbox mod.

6. MGS Aiming
A neat little mod that allows will switch to first-person when you aim-down-sights and switch back when you stop, just like Metal Gear Solid. Windows 10 drivers for 320 spacecam review. A cool mod for players who like to switch perspectives frequently.

7. Intimidation Overhaul
Intimidating is a fun thing to do, I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks that, right? Point your gun at someone and make them do your bidding. Good stuff. But it’s also pretty limited in Fallout 4. This mod adds a number of new things you can do with intimidation, such as shaking them down, putting them in handcuffs, or making them run away. A nice mod that makes intimidation a bit more interesting.
8. Improved Map with Visible Roads
A neat little quality-of-life mod that adds roads to the map to help you get about a bit easier. If you prefer to stick to the roads, this mod is for you.

9. True Storms
The True Storms mod adds a bit of chaos to the wasteland and makes it feel more like a nuclear wasteland rather than just a regular old apocalypse-stricken world. This mod adds radioactive rain, heavy fog, heavier rain, dust storms, and more.

10. Take Cover
This mod overhauls the third-person combat by adding a cover system like Mass Effect or Gears of War. It lets you take cover, lean out and snap back to cover, and even vault over low obstacles. It helps to make the third-person combat feel more dynamic and less static. A cool little mod.

11. Beast Master
Add a little Pokemon to your Fallout with this beast-capturing mod. Not only does this mod allow you to capture beasts and use them as companions, it also lets you customize them and dress them in armor, put trackers on them so you don’t lose them, manage their happiness by feeding them treats, and more. There’s plenty of powerful creatures in the wasteland, why not use them to your advantage?

12. Alternative Start
Tired of the same old start? Played Fallout 4 several times and looking for a different and quicker way to start the game? Alternative Start allows you to start as someone other than the Vault Dweller. Start as a citizen of Good neighbour, a raider or merc for hire, a passenger aboard a sinking ship, a member of the Church of Atom, and more.

13. OCDecorator
This neat little quality-of-life mod makes it easier to place objects onto other objects, making it much easier to decorate your settlements and keep things looking nice and tidy. A must-have if you’re into the building stuff in this game.

14. Lowered Weapons
It may not bother everyone, but personally, I always found it a little weird when your character talks to people with his/her gun pointed at them always felt unnecessarily menacing. This mod gives you the option to lower your weapon and quit being such a jerk.

Some of these attributes are pretty strong so experiment away and see just how powerful you can make that hunting rifle!

Let us know if we missed anything!
Fallout 4 launched late last year, and within just 24 hours the open-world role-playing game managed to move 12 million copies and acquire $750 million. That is both awe-inspiring and impressive, and yet some fans find the game to be lacking significantly when compared to previous entries in the series. Some feel the story, characters, and quests don't live up to the standards we were all expecting after waiting for so long. Personally, I found the post-apocalyptic RPG to be quite enjoyable, though I managed to achieve far more hours worth of playtime in Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.
Being a Bethesda game, though, Fallout 4 is highly modifiable. You can add in all-new quests, new locations, new weapons, attachments, armor, NPCs, and whatever else the mind may conjure up. Seriously, there are some truly goofy mods already released.
We're here to discuss weapons today, though. One of the staples of any first-person shooter - whether it be a straight up shooter or an RPG hybrid shooter - are the weapons featured in-game. Fallout 4 has a pretty extensive collection of choices for the budding survivor, but that can always be improved upon and expanded drastically. That's exactly what a few modders did with their time.
Two of my personal favorite weapon modders in the game are 'ff7cloudstrife' and 'Millenia'. Both are highly talented individuals, and we'll see a few firearms from both of them here today.
M2216 Standalone Assault Rifle
Nexus Mods Download
Designed and released by FF7CloudStrife, the M2216 Assault Rifle is reminiscent of the popular M16 assault rifle used by American soldiers since the Vietnam War.
One of the coolest features of this class remake is the compatibility with so many different modifications already in place. The developer ensured players could attach various scopes to their carry rail, new barrels, various stocks, and even a pistol grip.
Being such a highly customizable assault rifle, most players will discover a variant they truly enjoy after tweaking some of the stats and attachments. You can carry a CQB version of the rifle or perhaps a long-range version. The choice is ultimately up to you.
The only downside, however, is the rifle cannot be found scattered throughout the Wasteland, though that is set to change in the near future. In order to use the weapon, players must spawn it into their inventory via console commands, which shouldn't be a problem for most.
Desert Eagle
Nexus Mods Download
Designed by 'DOOM', the Desert Eagle is a powerful sidearm that most survivors will want on their person at all times. In close quarters, the bulky weapon is known to drop even the hardiest of Raiders with relative ease. Up-close-and-personal is how this silver weapon likes it.
Like most weapons in the game, the Desert Eagle allows for attachments to improve upon the weapon. Right now, the developer has only allowed for a Flashlight Mod and Glow Sights, which will both be quite useful when exploring abandoned homes at night.
There are a few steps in order to receive the weapon, as like our previous entry it is not yet implemented naturally into the Wasteland. To start:
- Open Console Commands and type: HELP 'DESERT' 4
- Seek the record with 'WEAP' in the front, then type 'ADDITEM xx000800
- Change the two 'xx's' to the number listed in the aforementioned WEAP Record
Crossbows of the Commonwealth
Nexus Mods Download
Have you ever wanted to roleplay as Darryl Dixon from The Walking Dead? Well, now that is possible in Fallout 4 by using the Crossbows of the Commonwealth mod, which, obviously, adds in a few variations of the crossbow to the game.
Designed by TrickyVein, this particularly useful mod features a highly customizable crossbow to the game. Players can craft different bolts for their new weapon, including flaming bolts, regular arrows, explosive bolts, electric bolts, and even ice bolts. The options are almost limitless when dealing with any type of situation in the Wasteland.
Unlike other mods mentioned, you can actually find various crossbows throughout the game world. Those who would prefer to simply use one instead of looting the crossbow can still make use of the Console Commands, however. Where is the fun in that, though?!
See-Through Combat Scopes - 4x Magnification
Nexus Mods Download
Designed by 'henkspamadres', the See-Through Combat Scopes modification enables a 4x zoom on your weapons with combat scopes attached. This is quite useful while using an assault rifle or opting for a close-up sniper rifle battle.
The developer describes his mod as adding in new scopes or replacing short-range scopes already featured in the game. The choice is up to you, though. The scopes added include an 8x, 4x, 2.5x, and a 4x Recon Scope. Each one has a customizable reticle, ensuring your weapon is truly your own.

Basically, this mod makes the game feel a bit more like a traditional first-person shooter. After toying around with the new scopes, we felt a bit stronger and more focused in our fire.
ScratchMade - New Double Barrel Shotgun
Nexus Mods Download
Remember we mentioned weapon mods designed by 'Millenia', well here is a texture pack for the double-barrel shotgun already in Fallout 4.
This is a quick download mod that basically creates a scratch-made texture for the vanilla model of the double-barrel shotgun. In short, the texture makes the powerful weapon appear more rugged and used, like it should after spending time in the Wasteland.
Fans of the monster-stopping shotgun should find the texture pack a bit more immersive. It adds character to the weapon without changing too much about what made it great.
CROSS PlasRail
Nexus Mods Download
Designed by 'Niero', the CROSS PlasRail is a new form of energy weapon that fires a bolt of plasma which will explode upon impacting with an enemy or surface. The explosion damage, according to the developer himself, is equal to your listed energy damage with the Demolitions Perk. For some, that could be quite an intense burst of energy being lobbed at a Deathclaw.
Of course, lobbing a bolt of plasma is only the Standard Barrel version of the weapon. There is also:
- Burst Flamer - Fires a burst of plasma fire, igniting the targeted area and dealing damage to a single area.
- Crystallizer - Fires a cluster of six plasma shards. Each shard will shatter upon impact and cause bleeding damage to an enemy.
- Disc Launcher - While aiming, the Disc Launcher will lock-on to the enemy. Players can fire exploding discs of plasma, which can be arced around corners.
- Arc Cannon - Probably the coolest feature is the Arc Cannon, a long-range conversion modification for the already impressive plasma weapon. Arcs are 100% accurate when the weapon has been steadied, and will fire multiple arcs of plasma lightning.
There are even various sites, like the Reflex, Combat, and 6x Scope, to attach to your weapon, effectively increasing its already devastating range of use.
Just Holstered Weapons
Nexus Mods Download
Designed by 'friffy', the Just Holstered Weapons mod is pretty simple and basic in terms of weapon modifications to the vanilla game. It does require Visible Weapons to work 100% correctly, though, so be sure to download that beforehand.
Basically, for those players who enjoy wandering the vast expanses of the wastes in third-person, this mod allows your main weapons to be completely visible while holstered. As you can see in the sample image above, the player has a sawn-off double-barrel shotgun attached to one shoulder and a sword on the other.
This adds a bit more realism, immersion, and just plain looks cool overall.
M4A1 SOPMOD
Nexus Mods Download
What is cooler than a fully-automatic assault rifle? A fully-automatic assault rifle with an underbarrel grenade launcher attached for maximum devastation in mid-range conflicts, that's what!
Developer 'SkyrimForDaWin' wanted to craft a unique assault rifle known across the real-world, but one that is as highly customizable as its real world variant, too. Well, he scored a huge win in that regard.
The M4A1 SOPMOD assault rifle features:
- Receivers - Automatic and Semi-Auto
- Magazines - Standard Mags, Dual-Mag, Alternative Mags, Dual-Drum Mags
- Sights - Iron Sights, Carry Handle, EOTech Sight, 4x Scope, 8x Scope
- Barrels - Short Barrels, Long Barrels, M203 Grenade Launcher, Laser Sights, Masterkey Shotgun, Rail Covers, Foregrips
- Muzzle Breaks - Various Flash Hiders and Suppressors
- Grips - 4 Stock and Pistol Grip Variations
If there were ever just a single gun to push you through Fallout 4 and come out on top of numerous firefights, this would be the one to choose.
Jaguar MSX 200 LMG
Nexus Mods Download
The Jaguar MSX 200 LMG is an ugly weapon, granted, but an incredibly useful man-stopper at mid-range engagements. The fully-automatic support weapon, designed by 'MAIBATSU' and 'DOOM', was originally featured in Fallout: New Vegas before being ported to the most recent release.
There are a few weapon modifications to improve the look and feel of the weapon, including:
- 1 Barrel
- 1 Grip
- 1 Stock
- 2 Magazines
- 6 Receivers
- 4 Sights/Scopes
- 24 Ammo Types
You can find it either naturally within the game world or by using Console Commands to quickly receive your own version.
Best of all, it's available on the Xbox One!
Bow and Arrow
Nexus Mods Download
If this were a true apocalypse, the number of weapons would not be quite as high as it were. People would make use of rudimentary spears, throwing knives, blades, and bows and arrows. Well, this mod rectifies that by introducing a pretty cool recurve bow and arrows to the game.
Developer 'Junnari' probably played too much Skyrim before shifting his attention to Fallout 4, which led to this particular mod. The arrow projectiles fired from the bow shoot in a clear arc, which means normal sights like on firearms won't work correctly. You must account for distance when firing upon an enemy.
After some much-needed practice and more than a few kills, players will probably feel like the ultimate killer while sneaking through the Wasteland, silently picking off Raiders with a arrow shot to the dome.
As you can see, there is a pretty wide variety of new weapons and tweaks to already existing weapons within the world of Fallout 4. These mods are simply the tip of the iceberg, with brand new releases occurring on a near daily basis.
Some options are highly customizable, as we mentioned in each section, so some players may not feel the need to download numerous weapons to fill in their inventory space. One single assault rifle could last you the entire game with a variety of attachments.
It is hard to pick a favorite when there are so many wonderful options available on Nexus Mods. Brilliant developers continue expanding upon this open-world extravaganza, ensuring everyone can find their favorite firearm to use in-game.
Which weapon mod was your favorite and why?
