Please see /r/SimThemePark for the new patch. These links are down, and are old anyway. For the lazy, heres the link.
Theme Park World is a construction and management simulation game, and is a sequel to the 1994 video game Theme Park. Theme Park World was developed by Bullfrog Productions and released by Electronic Arts in 1999.
No, I'm not kidding. I have the game running on every Windows OS from Vista, all the way to Windows 10..even 64-bit. Although it's not flawless, it's definitely playable.
Here's a quick list of everything in the patch to achieve this:
- No cd-crack, with hex-edits from me to fix the text on signs not showing up
- usp11.dll to fix the no text on signs. Game will use this instead of usp10.dll
- (Windows 8 and higher) Included modified high, medium, and low.sam files which have the 32-bit rendering and texturing enabled. This enables those on 8 and higher to have a cursor in-game, as well as run at glorious 60fps
- Fonts the game needs to even run. They can be found in 'datatpwfnt'. Credit to Adam Hearn for this
- Included the 'Movies' folder to enable the cutscenes when the game starts, which breaks when you use a no-cd crack.
- Included the 'Music' folder within every level, to enable music in the parks, which breaks when you use a no-cd crack.
Alright, enough of that. You want to run the game, right? Okay. First, download the approperiate patch for your Operating System.
Downloads
Attention: This is literally a patch! As such, the download is a decent size (~230MB!).
[Disclaimer]
Do this at your own risk, and make a backup of your game directory. I'm NOT responsible for save-game corruption, park glitches, rides flipping upside down, or Buzzy wearing a coconut bra and doing the hula.
- If you have the Gold Edition disc, now would be a good time to install it with the game. DO NOT LAUNCH GAME AFTER INSTALL
- Once you've done that, go to your game folder
- 64-bit: C:Program Files (x86)SimTheme Park
- 32-bit: C:Program FilesSimTheme Park
- Extract everything in the archive into the folder. Windows will ask if you want to replace a bunch of files. Say yes. You know you wanna.
- Double click the .reg file I've included, and click 'Yes' on the window which pops up. It enables the no CD Executable which makes the game run. If you're worried the .reg is a virus, open the file in notepad. It only modifies registry entries regarding the game.
- Although not required, you should reboot. Just to make sure there isn't any cached files sitting in memory or anything, which could screw up the patch.
- Now play the game
Installation (no Gold Edition):
- Install the game as normal. DO NOT LAUNCH GAME AFTER INSTALL
- Download the 2.0 patch from here
- Install the patch once downloaded
- Navigate to the game folder
- Sound occasionally clips. It appears to be linked to QMixer.dll. Older versions don't have this issue, but they'll stop some sounds from working.
- No widescreen support. You can achieve it if you change around scaling options for your graphics driver, though. Looks nice. I'm currently looking for a wrapper or modified ddraw.dll to fix this
- Although rare, parks may randomly reset.
- Your taskbar may appear randomly. To fix, just save your game and it should go away.
FAQ:
Ah yes, I knew somebody would end up down here. Let me guess: You launched the game after installing it, it crashed, you applyed the patches, and now it's not working at all?
Yeah, that's what I thought. Here's the fix.
- Uninstall the game using Add or Remove Programs
- Navigate to your program files directory, and delete the folder 'SimTheme Park' Ilayaraja hits 1990's free download zip file.
- 64-bit: C:Program Files (x86)
- 32-bit: C:Program Files
- On 64-bit: Navigate to C:UsersYOUR WINDOWS USERNAMEAppDataLocalVirtualStoreProgram Files (x86)
- On 32-bit: C:UsersYOUR WINDOWS USERNAMEAppDataLocalVirtualStoreProgram Files
- Delete the folder 'SimTheme Park'
- Reboot your system once or twice (yes, twice does help sometimes)
- Follow whichever guide applies to you above.
Sim Theme Park Gold Edition Download
I try to run the disc installer, but it won't start!
Crap. This is actually a known issue which happens about 50% of the time, and I'm currently looking into it. Right now the best you can do is this:
- Reboot your computer
- Open the disc in Windows Explorer
- Run 'autorun.exe'
- Click 'Install'
If that doesn't get the installer to start, there's nothing you can do (to my knowledge). I'm still looking for a way to fix this.
You have to remember this game is 15 years old, now. There's only so much I can do to keep it running. Some computers will just outright refuse to run the game, no matter what I do. If this is the case, I'm sorry. Your computer just isn't compatible.
BUT HEY GUESS WHAT? You can help me with this! Get me a full system report of your computer by doing this:
- Press the Windows key + R
- Alternatively, open the start menu and search for 'Run', and open it.
- Type 'dxdiag' and press 'OK' or the enter key
- If a window comes up, press 'Yes'. It'll help me get more information on drivers.
- Click 'Save All Information..' in the bottom right of the window
- Save it to your desktop
- Open it in notepad, then copy and paste everything in it to pastebin.com
- Do not select anything for Sytax highlighting. If you must set a Paste Expiration for some reason, please set it a minimum for '1 Day'. That way I have more than enough time to collect the report.
- Either post the link in the comments here, or send it to me in a PM.

My friend and I are working on modding tools, we figured out how to extract and add files to .wad's and .sdt's; we have also figured out the encoding for .wct files (textures), currently we can load .wct but since we figured out the encoding for it saving it to new file formats and making new .wct files is not too far off. I'll be releasing the tools soon once encoding to .wct works. After that were going to go after .omp files (which are scripts (recently found out to actually be .rse files that are scripts; unsure about .omp files now as they seemed like compiled code, It might still be but unsure of what kind)) and decoding the obsufacted .txt and .sam files in the wads. Here's some proof, this is a tool that was made for looking at .wct files: http://i.imgur.com/mnKQkzI.png There's still work to be done as there needs to be support for another compression mode and the code for actually generating a .tga from the .wct hasn't been started yet.
Although not super important, heres something kind of cool we found out:
.wad's exist only to keep folders tidy and lower file size, you don't need to make something a .wad for it to load the files; theres proof of that in the dynamic folder (data/generic/dynamic) so It's likely that's true in other folders since qickload.txt tells the game to load those files so it probably searches the sub folders for text files with the name qickload and .sam files so in the future when shops or rides or w/e is able to be made you really wont have to turn them into .wad files; you can just throw the files into the shops/rides folder (unless you want it to be tidy in which it'll still be an option).
Update 9/8/2017:
.wct to .tga done; next up is .tga to .wct: http://i.imgur.com/qXLF2t4.png
Update 9/9/2017:
So apparently we got it wrong, .rse is compiled scripts. Eitherway were making progress. http://i.imgur.com/VC12GPo.jpg
Update 9/14/2017:
Do you want models because we have them (to a certain extent lol), still gotta figure out UV Maps: https://i.imgur.com/cCz9tQ6.png
